Eileen Kennedy
has shown in New York, Boston,
Provincetown, Havana and Pinar del Rio, Cuba; her works are in private
collections in Cuba, Europe and throughout the United States.
"… her intention is to recreate the “interior” of objects
and place… with subtle emotional tones and form …intellectual and
instinctive, she has elevated abstract figuration to an experimental
mode, mysterious and novel."
--Martha Montesino Cantillo, Cuban art critic
"Eileen Kennedy’s paintings
are worldly and sexy. She paints with her whole body and mind, which is
a good thing, matching pastel with noir, and a cool critical eye. Her
'Made in Havana' Series elevates the narrative to a formal tool,
invigorating our ideas about how to look at story in painting."
--Michael Carroll, Director
Silas-Kenyon Gallery
Schoolhouse Center, Provincetown
Following her one-woman show in Havana in November 2002, Kennedy was the
first international painter to be invited to exhibit by the prestigious
Museum of Art in Pinar del Rio. Working in her studios, sometimes with
fragmentary sketches made on site, Provincetown and Cuba have been her
inspirations for the last several years.
Her artistic background
includes studies at the Museum School in Boston and Syracuse University,
a BFA from Massachusetts College of Art, as well as private tutorials
and classes with among others, American Impressionist Ray Nolin and
figurative painter Jim Peters.
Associate
Editor of artsMEDIA Boston, Kennedy writes about art when not
in her studio.
